Socialist Action joined dozens of people at an anti-war rally across from the U.S. Consulate in Toronto on July 9, 2023. The gathering was part of a country-wide peace protest against the NATO leaders’ summit then taking place in Lithuania. A day earlier lawyer and journalist Dimitri Lascaris spoke to a public meeting at a Toronto library about his recent visit to Russia and options to end the war in Ukraine.
Banners at the rally proclaimed “Self Determination for Ukraine” along with placards and signs to stop funding war. Slogans such as “Canada Out of NATO” and “Homes not Drones” were enthusiastically chanted. Speakers spoke against support for the proxy war in Ukraine. Demands were made to disband NATO and stop violating international law.
