Yves Engler, the socialist candidate for federal NDP Leader, addressed an enthusiastic crowd of supporters on November 14 in Toronto. The rally was a roaring success. Close to 200 people attended the gathering at the Center for Social Innovation on Spadina Avenue.
In addition to Yves, speakers included Julius Arscott (Socialist Action and NDP Socialist Caucus), Mike Palecek (former president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers), and Rabbi David Mivisair. Elizabeth Byce chaired the event in place of Sara Rasikh who was injured by police in an attack at a pro-Palestinian protest earlier in the day at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Yves was greeted on his arrival at the CSI with a standing ovation and rhythmic chants of “Down with Capitalism” and “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.”
Yves submitted his formal application for leadership contestant status on November 10 at federal NDP head office in Ottawa.
Participants at the Toronto rally contributed over $4,000 in cash and credit card donations to the campaign, and snapped up dozens of copies of the 96-page (French and English combined edition) policy platform titled “Capitalism can’t be fixed — onward to a socialist future.” For more information please visit: yvesforndpleader.ca
