Socialism in the Park – 2025

On July 16, dozens of people gathered on a humid evening at Toronto’s Christie Pits Park for the first installment of a new political education series, courtesy of Socialist Action.

SA leading member and union activist Corey David presented the topic “Origins of Class and the State”.  With Elizabeth Byce in the chair, questions and discussion followed, along with the announcement of upcoming local and cross-country events, including pro-Palestinian solidarity actions, protests against federal Law C-5 which tramples Indigenous rights and environmental protection, and the inspiring socialist campaign to elect anti-imperialist author Yves Engler to the position of NDP leader.

Under the SA canopy, sales of literature and buttons were brisk, and one discussion participant applied to join Socialist Action.

The next topic in the series, “A Workers’ Party that can Win Power”, will be presented by Barry Weisleder, SA federal secretary, on Wednesday, July 23.
