Since even before October 7th, Canada’s legal and institutional framework has shielded Israel and perpetuated Zionist ideology. Over the past year, the Canadian state apparatus has increasingly targeted Pro-Palestine activists and protestors with charges and jailtime while finding underhanded ways to sanction Pro-Palestine speech through initiatives such as the “Canadian Handbook on the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism”. The sharp rise in aggressive and anti-democratic tactics pursued by the state to crackdown on Palestinian advocates is a shameful intimidation campaign meant to bury a liberatory grassroots movement on behalf of a powerful proxy of empire.
