Hundreds rallied at a busy downtown Toronto intersection on October 26 to demand an end to the supply of arms to the Zionist state, chiefly by the USA, but also from weapons makers in Canada. The genocide aimed at the Palestinian and Arab peoples of the Middle East, waged by the western imperialist powers, has spread beyond besieged Gaza, beyond the Occupied West Bank, to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Although the most recent bombardment of Iran by Israel failed to inflict strategic damage, should Iran’s oil and nuclear facilities be hit in the future, the risk of a catastrophic world war is palpable.
After an hour of drumming, clapping, and chanting slogans “Hands Off Lebanon”, “Ceasefire Now”, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free” and “We Want One State – Back to 1948”, the crowd proceeded up Bay Street from the gathering on Front. A sea of Palestinian flags surged behind a pick-up truck equipped with a powerful sound system. Hundreds of participants snapped up Socialist Action leaflets, and dozens purchased “End the Occupation – Free Palestine” buttons.
