On June 13 actions took place at MP offices across the Canadian state to demand a full, immediate arms embargo against Israel. The International Court of Justice has found the Zionist state potentially guilty of genocide. The United Nations is calling for an immediate ceasefire.
In Toronto Centre outside the office of Marci Ien, Liberal Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, about forty people picketed and chanted “Embargo Arms Now.” Many drivers of cars and trucks honked their support as they passed.
The organization World BEYOND War appealed for more actions: “Since the #ArmsEmbargoNow campaign began, with two dozen allies in May, it has garnered the support of 400+ unions and civil society organizations. It successfully pushed 41 Members of Parliament from across party lines to sign on!
Still the world witnesses massacres in Gaza almost every day, and the devastating death toll continues to climb. The need is more urgent than ever to increase the pressure on MPs, coast-to-coast, and force them to call for an end to Canada’s arms trade with Israel — before the House of Commons recesses for the summer.”
Socialist Action was pleased to participate in the event in Toronto Centre, as well as at a similar picket in Toronto-Danforth, in front of the constituency office of Liberal MP Julie Dabrusin.
