On September 18, 2022, rallies and marches took place across the Canadian state to demand “Status for All!”, for migrant workers’ rights and to end the super-exploitation of undocumented workers from abroad.
In Toronto, protesters against Ottawa’s abusive policy defied a one-hour downpour as they marched from a rally at Christie Pits Park, along Bloor, past the office of Liberal Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, to a concluding gathering of speakers and music at the intersection of Spadina and Bloor. Organizers claimed that up to 3,000 participated in the event.
Socialist Action members and friends walked with the crowd, and chanted “Status for All, Now!”, “Solidarity Knows No Borders” and “Workers United Will Never Be Defeated.”
In the words of Migrant Workers Alliance organizer S.K. Hussan:
“Our demand is radical in its simplicity: Permanent resident status for every person in the country immediately, and permanent resident status on arrival for every migrant in the future.”
“We have come so far, decades of work have created this historic opportunity. We can win bigger if we push harder”
