As part of a global day of action, nearly a thousand people rallied and marched in downtown Toronto on April 21 to demand freedom for all Palestinian prisoners held in the jails of the Zionist apartheid state. Over 10,000 Palestinians, hundreds of them children, are being held. Over one-third of them are incarcerated without any charges filed against them. It is called “administrative detention.” It is often extended indefinitely — even for years and decades.
The Toronto event began at Front and Bay Streets, outside Union Station railway center. After several speakers and much chanting, hosted by the Palestinian Youth Movement, the participants walked up cavernous Bay Street facing a stiff breeze, passing the citadels of Canadian corporate capitalism, including the headquarters of the CIBC, the Royal Bank, the Scotia Bank and TD, several of which have invested millions of dollars in the production of guns, bombs, anti-personnel carriers, surveillance devices, and military aircraft which are sold to Israel to carry out its genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.
Socialist Action took part in the demonstration and received over $152 in contributions for its End the Occupation – Free Palestine buttons, and for copies of the April edition of The Red Review magazine. Thanks to Rubina C. for the attached photos.
