Socialist Action / Ligue pour l’Action socialiste joins the Canadian Network on Cuba in condemning the night time attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Clearly a response by reactionary forces frustrated by the recent success of the Cuban government in fostering international solidarity against the U.S. embargo, the attack occurred on the heels of the visit of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to New York City for the United Nations General Assembly. The Cuban President was warmly received by adoring crowds, who saw the Cuban leader as a representative of the righteous struggle against imperialism and social injustice.
This was the second terrorist attack on the Cuban embassy in recent years. The exterior walls of the embassy still bear the bullet holes of a terrorist attack perpetrated in 2020. The safe haven offered to far-right terrorists by the US government encourages such brazen criminal acts. The perpetrators should be found, arrested and punished.
We demand that Cuba be removed immediately from Washington’s reprehensible list of state sponsors of terrorism, that the U.S. terminate its inhuman embargo of Cuba, and that the U.S. end its occupation of Cuban territory at Guantanamo.
