Socialist Action and the PEARS Project

Socialist Action joined the University of Toronto student-led protest against institutionalized sexual abuse

On Friday, October 7th, Socialist Action joined the PEARS Project (Prevention, Empowerment, Advocacy, Response for Survivors) along with over one hundred students and community members who rallied at Simcoe Hall on the U of T campus to demand meaningful action from the University of Toronto in support of rape victims on campus.

Socialist Action comrades Rubina Chowdhury and Sean Ihn made eloquent remarks among the several solidarity speakers present. Many students visited the Socialist Action display table, purchased booklets and buttons, received information about the Municipal Socialist Alliance, and signed up for more information. Both students, community members, and comrades from Socialist Action were moved by the testimony of sexual assault victims who demand justice from a ‘venerable’ academic institution that claims to take violence against women and other people seriously.
